From WC final referee to EPL assistant referee? Saudi soccer looks to star-studded referees

The Saudi Professional League’s recruitment drive isn’t limited to superstar players. This time, a world-renowned referee is also on the radar.

According to Saudi media outlet Al Asharq Al Wasat, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) is considering hiring veteran English Premier League referee Michael Oliver and Polish referee Szymon Marciniak, who officiated the Argentina-France match at the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Oliver is no stranger to Korean soccer fans. He has been a Premier League referee since 2010, was promoted to FIFA International Referee in 2012, and has been a UEFA Elite Referee since 2018. He also officiated at the 2019 FIFA U-20 World Cup Poland semifinal between South Korea and Ecuador. Oliver also officiated at the Al Hilal-Al Nasr match earlier this year. He was more of a guest referee then, but this time around, the club is looking to make him a ‘full-time’ official.카지노

The 42-year-old referee has been representing Poland since 2011. In 2022, he won all the honors that come with officiating. He officiated both the 2021-2022 UEFA Champions League final and the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar final, becoming only the second referee in history to take the whistle at both the World Cup and Champions League finals in the same season.

<According to Al Asharq Al Wasat, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation is considering bringing in these two high-profile referees with the idea that the country needs to raise the standard of its referees to keep up with the high standards of the Saudi Professional League. Even referees have to be stars to play in Saudi Arabia.
