The LG Twins’ magic number did not diminish on the day they played their season finale against the Samsung Lions.
LG suffered a 1-11 setback in their season finale against the Samsung Lions of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium on April 28. LG’s magic number remained at “6” as NC, the team with the most games left to play among the top contenders, defeated KIA 13-3.
LG’s batting order on the day was Hong Chang-ki (right fielder), Park Hae-min (center fielder), Kim Hyun-soo (designated hitter), Kim Min-sung (first baseman), Oh Ji-hwan (shortstop), Son Ho-young (third baseman), Park Dong-won (catcher), Lee Jae-won (left fielder), and Shin Min-jae (second baseman). The starting pitcher was right-hander Lee Jung-yong.
Lee struggled. He gave up two runs in the first inning. He gave up a leadoff single to Ryu Ji-hyuk and a triple down the right field line to Kim Hyun-joon. He then gave up an RBI single to Koo Ja-rook to fall behind 0-2.
The offense couldn’t get anything going against Samsung starter Choi Chae-heung. They didn’t score a run until the fourth inning. Meanwhile, Lee Jung-yong was pulled early.
In the top of the fourth, Lee gave up a double to right-center field to the first batter, Oh Jae-il. After retiring Lee Jae-hyun on a grounder to shortstop, he gave up a double to Lee Sung-gyu down the left field line. He then gave up a double to Kim Young-woong in right field.
He couldn’t settle down. He gave up a single to Lee Byung-heon and a double to Ryu Ji-hyuk, and eventually gave way to Son Joo-young.캡틴토토
Even Son was shaky. After getting Kim Hyun-joon to fly out to first base, he gave up a single to left and a double to center to Koo Ja-ook. A walk to Oh Jae-il loaded the bases and an RBI double to Lee Jae-hyun extended the lead.
Choi earned his first win of the season in his 15th appearance and 14th start.
LG was unable to erase the magic number on this day. With the loss, the magic number remained at 6 as third-place NC swept KIA 17-3.
