‘Last 10G 3W 7L’ Doosan in crisis, Yang Ji recovers from injury to join first team

By Oh Sang-jin Reporter= The crisis-ridden Doosan Bears are back with the return of Yang Yang-ji.

Doosan added catcher Yang Yang-ji, outfielder Kim Tae-geun, and infielder Ahn Jae-seok to the first team roster ahead of their away game against the Kiwoom Heroes at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul on April 22.

Yang, who complained of side discomfort during training on the fifth, underwent a medical examination on the seventh and was found to have a left side muscle injury. After being placed on the disabled list on the 8th, Yang returned to the first team roster for the first time in two weeks.

Doosan felt his absence keenly during his time out, as the team struggled without the league-leading offense of Yang, who batted .323 with nine home runs, 44 RBIs and a .906 OPS in 87 games despite carrying a heavy load on defense as the starting catcher.스포츠토토

After falling as low as seventh place at one point, Doosan has regained the fifth spot, but has yet to regain its five-win percentage (50 wins, 51 losses, 1 tie, .495 winning percentage). The gap between them and the sixth-place KIA Tigers (48 wins, 49 losses, 2 draws, 0.495 winning percentage) has disappeared, and they are only 1.5 games behind the seventh-place Lotte Giants (50 wins, 54 losses, 0.481 winning percentage).

Despite Yang’s return, Doosan kept catchers Jang Seung-hyun and Park Yoo-yeon on the first team roster, maintaining a three-catcher system. Jang Seung-hyun will wear the starting catcher’s mask and Kim Jae-hwan will serve as the designated hitter, with Yang Ji starting the game off the bench.
