Son Heung-min wrote the 7th ‘New History’ in the history of Son Heung-min…Double-digit score for 8 consecutive EPL seasons ‘a milestone’

Son Heung-min (31, Tottenham Hotspur) has etched his name into English Premier League (EPL) history again, this time with his eighth consecutive season of double-digit goals. He became the seventh player in history to reach this milestone, a feat accomplished by only six other players. He now joins the likes of Thierry Henry and Harry Kane in the list of players who have achieved the feat.랭크카지노

Earlier in the week, Son scored a goal and provided two assists in Tottenham Hotspur’s 4-1 home win over Newcastle United in the 16th round of the 2023-24 English Premier League (EPL) at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London, England, on Nov. 11 (ET), ending a five-match winless streak (one draw, four losses).

Moving to the left flank for the first time in a long time, Son picked up back-to-back assists in the 25th and 38th minutes as he completely broke down the flanks. He used his speed and dribbling to gain the upper hand against former teammate Kieran Trippier, before setting up Destiny Udogie and Hischalisson with precise doorstep passes.

Furthermore, Son stepped up to take the penalty kick himself in the 38th minute after drawing a one-on-one with the goalkeeper in the penalty spot, ripping a right-footed shot into the left corner of the net. It was the team’s fourth goal of the day and Son’s 10th EPL goal of the season.

The goal tied Son’s EPL record. He became the seventh player in EPL history to score 10 or more goals in eight consecutive EPL seasons, according to local media outlets including the BBC and statistics firm Opta. Scoring double-digit goals in the EPL is no easy feat, but Son has done it for eight consecutive seasons. It’s a feat that only six players have ever accomplished.

Son broke into the EPL with Tottenham in the 2015-16 season after leaving Hamburg and Bayer Leverkusen in Germany. His first season at Spurs was a bit of a disappointment as he struggled to find his feet and compete for a starting spot, scoring just four league goals. But once he settled in, his goalscoring form really took off. In 2016-17, he scored 14 goals, tied for 13th in the league. At the time, it was also the most league goals by an individual in a single season since his professional debut.

Since then, Son has firmly established himself as a regular in the Tottenham lineup. For three consecutive seasons, he scored between 11 and 12 league goals, establishing himself as a striker capable of consistently scoring double-digit league goals in a season. At the time, Son was more often deployed on the left flank than up front in a direct attacking role. However, his ability to come up with solutions at key moments has made him a force to be reckoned with.

Then, in the 2020s, his goalscoring prowess completely exploded. In 2020-21, Son scored 17 goals in 37 matches (36 starts) to break the record for most goals in a single season in the EPL since joining the league, and he followed that up with a whopping 23 goals in 2021-22 to become the first Asian player to win the Golden Boot as the EPL’s top scorer. He became the joint top scorer with Mohamed Salah, a world-class striker representing the EPL, and made history in the EPL and Asian soccer.

However, the season after he became the EPL’s top scorer, he fell off a bit. A series of injuries, including an orbital fracture, and the effects of the World Cup in Qatar kept him out of shape. It was later revealed that he played through the pain of a hernia to the point where he was operated on at the end of the season. Despite this, Son still managed to score 10 league goals last season. He became the 11th player in EPL history to score double-digit goals in seven consecutive seasons.

Last season’s disappointment didn’t last long. Son Heung-min wore the team’s new captain’s armband this season, and his role changed dramatically, allowing him to “bounce back” in just one season. As he began to take over the frontline striker position created by Harry Kane’s move to Bayern Munich, he began to tap into his direct-fix instincts. He was on the left against Newcastle, where he scored his 10th goal of the league, but for most of the previous games, he had been playing up front and was tasked with goal-scoring duties.

Up front, Son has established himself as one of the best strikers in the league. Starting with a hat-trick against Burnley in September, he scored eight goals in October alone, including multi-goals against Arsenal and goals against Liverpool, Fulham, and Crystal Palace. After taking a breather last month, he reignited his scoring spree with back-to-back goals against Manchester City and Newcastle this month. It’s not so much that he’s been scoring against relatively weak teams, but rather that he’s been particularly strong against the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Man City, and Newcastle.

With his goal against Newcastle, Son extended his streak of double-digit league goals this season to eight consecutive seasons, a feat that has been accomplished by only six other strikers in the EPL. Son joins Thierry Henry and Sadio Mane (Alnasr) on this list. Henri is an EPL legend as a world-class striker, while Mane was an EPL icon with Liverpool. Their eight consecutive seasons of double-digit goals was the longest in the league, and Son tied the record for consecutive seasons.

Son’s next challenge is to score double-digit goals in nine consecutive seasons. These records are also held by legends in their own right. Harry Kane (Bayern Munich) and Sergio Aguero, soul mates at Tottenham and the EPL’s top goal scorers. Both Kane and Aguero have scored double-digit goals in the EPL for nine consecutive seasons. If Son reaches double digits next season, he will join Kane and Aguero on the same page of EPL history as Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Mane. It would be the fifth time in history.

Since then, the records have been staggered by one season each. Frank Lampard holds the record for double-digit goals in 10 consecutive seasons, while Wayne Rooney holds the longest streak in the category at 11 seasons. Rooney, who has scored double-digit goals in the EPL for eight consecutive seasons, is three seasons behind. Born in 1992, Son is slowly getting to be a bit of an old man, but the way he’s bounced back this season suggests he’ll be a consistent goal scorer for many more seasons to come. The same can be said for Heung-min, who is now a fearsome force on the EPL stage, not only on the left flank but also as a frontline option.

His seventh EPL goal of the season is impressive, but looking back on his career, it’s clear that Son is not a class act who will be satisfied with a place in the history books. He still has a lot of work to do to surpass the legends and etch his name into the history books of the EPL on a global stage. We can’t wait to see where he goes from here.
